Property & Asset Division

In Utah, as part of a divorce decree, property and assets will be divided between the parties.  There are numerous factors that may play into the division of property and assets. Utah courts divide marital property and debts by the law of equitable distribution. Equitable does not necessarily mean 50-50. Courts will consider the length of the marriage, the standard of living during the marriage, and the age, health, occupation and sources of income of each spouse. Gender is not a factor.

In order to protect your property and assets and ensure that an equitable and appropriate division of marital assets is achieved, it is important to have competent legal counsel to assist you. In some situations, asset division can be extremely complex and involve a multitude of legal issues.  It's important to have an advocate at your side to assist you with protecting your interests.

Our family lawyers can assist you with all of your property and asset division questions, and represent your interests in divorce proceedings. We can also ensure that assets are located and found and made available for court division.
